While receiving a best actor award on Wednesday, January 8, Adrien Brody was clearly moved as fires still destroy Los Angeles.
“It’s been a heavy day for me,” 51-year-old Brody said at the New York City Film Critics Circle Awards before sobbing, according to People.
The actor collected himself and remarked, “It’s difficult to accept something like this when so much pain exists in the world. And yeah, my heart travels to all the families, the animals, and our colleagues.
For his performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist, Brody was getting the best actor prize. Still, the terrible events in Los Angeles kept coming back to him.
“Most of the homes on the west side, the beach side of the [Pacific Coast Highway] are gone,” he remarked according to Variety. “This is our community from the Palisades on.”
Brody then thanked the “bravery” of first responders battling the Tuesday, January 7 fires that tore throughout Los Angeles. The Associated Press reports that by late Wednesday another fire had started in the Hollywood Hills, and over 100,000 people are under evacuation orders.
Brody stated during his address Wednesday night, “I just want to thank and commend the bravery of the first responders, and their sacrifices and meaningful work that deserves our recognition tonight.”
Over her losing her house, Hilton posted on Instagram Wednesday that she was “heartbroken beyond words”. “No one should ever have to experience sitting with her family watching the news and seeing our Malibu house burn to the ground on live TV,” she said. We created many priceless experiences right here in this house. Here is where [her son] Phoenix first set foot and where we hoped to create lasting memories with [daughter] London.
Over four decades passed before Crystal and his wife Janice lost their house. “Words cannot capture the scope of the devastation we are seeing and experiencing,” they stated to Us Weekly. “We hurt for our neighbors and friends who also lost businesses and homes in this catastrophe.”
The comment went on, “Janice and I have resided in our house since 1979. Here we reared our grandchildren and children. Our house was bursting with love everywhere. Beautiful memories incapable of being taken away. Naturally, we are devastated; but, we will get through this with the love of our friends and children. Our prayers center on the first responders’ and firefighters’ safety. Resilient community of wonderful people, the Pacific Palisades will rise once more in due course. Our house is this.
